Equalizer’s new product ready for market
SWi1214TM flange spreader

ABERDEEN/HOUSTON – Equalizer International, developer of the world’s most powerful flange spreading wedges, has responded to global demand for its new range of tools by stepping up production and bringing them to market in time for Offshore Europe.

The company, which will be exhibiting at OE, announced at OTC in Houston earlier this year that it was introducing a new SWi range of wedges designed to significantly decrease downtime while providing a safe, efficient and cost effective way to access and spread flange joints.

The tools generate a world-leading spreading force of up to 25T and the SWi range includes a hydraulic (SWi20/25TE), integral hydraulic (SWi20/25TI) and a mechanical version (Swi12/14TM). The maximum spreading force has increased by up to 60% with a potential 30% increase in spreading distance.

Ian McCormick, managing director of Equalizer International, said the company has just produced the first batch of new tools and these will now be dispatched to meet orders around the world.

“There has been considerable interest in the SWi range since we first made the announcement in Houston and we expect that to increase significantly after Offshore Europe when more people will have the opportunity to see the wedges in operation.

“The industry faces increasing challenges in working with aging equipment and facilities and planned maintenance to maintain the integrity of these assets is critical. Traditional flange maintenance working practices involve capital and labour intensive activities and while our tools are considerably more powerful they’ve been designed with the end user in mind so they are light, portable and very safe and efficient to use.

“That means significant cost savings through reducing downtime from what might have been days to just hours but more importantly, introduces much safer and more efficient ways of working.”

To help respond to the worldwide interest in the new range, Equalizer International has opened an office in Houston and appointed Hector Santos as Sales and Marketing Manager, Western Hemisphere to support Equalizer’s business growth across the American hemisphere.
